Review: Erin Stutland’s SHRINK SESSION workout

Indulge me for this post. As you know, this blog is all about books. Books are good for the mind. Keeps the brain healthy.

But what about the rest of the body? And the soul? How do you keep them healthy?

Right around the time I started my new job back in April I discovered a workout that, for me, complimented my brain workouts of reading. That workout?  Erin Stutland’s Shrink Session. Much like a book that blends all your favorite story elements, these workouts blend all my favorite workout elements: cardio, yoga, and dance with a sprinkling of kickboxing.

It doesn’t stop there. Let’s do a little word association exercise…When I say the word ‘workout’ what is the first adjective that pops in your mind? I don’t know about you but, for me, that adjective is ‘tedious’. (Or maybe another T word…Like, um, tortuous?)

With these workouts, none of those ugly T adjectives are even a part of your vocabulary. Erin has put her workouts to words and has you focusing on meditations and mantras during the duration of the workout. Just like the author of your favorite book, Erin has that inexplicable way of transporting you out of your ‘here and now’ and into a world that, while it might not feel like a fairytale at the time, you are definitely working towards your storybook ending.

I’m sure everybody is itching to know how much weight I lost, how many sizes I dropped, yada yada yada. For me, these workouts were never about the number — be it the number in my pants or the number on the scale. I purchased these workouts because I had a way of working out my brain that I swear by (reading) but needed a workout that would do the same for my body and my spirit without beating me up. After all, nobody (translation: me) likes a depressing book. Why would I want a depressing workout? Rather than beat me down these workouts, with their mantras and positivity, lift me up.

For me, these workouts are the equivalent of curling up under a blanket with a cup of tea and a good book. They give you warm fuzzies with a lifted booty. What’s not to love?

I would recommend them because they are the thinking woman’s workout. And Erin is the author of your resulting awesome physique.
